COME ONE, COME ALL!    TO THE WINDHAM COUNTY HISTORY FAIR!

On the Historic Newfane Common, Route 30, Newfane

Step back in time at the Seventh Biennial Windham County History Fair on Saturday, August 10th from 9:00 to 4:00.  Held on Historic Newfane Common (Route 30, Newfane), the Fair is a festival of vintage exhibits, demonstrations and historic tours featuring Windham County’s rich heritage.  Special exhibits by the Vermont Archaeology Society, the Vermont Historical Society, the Vermont State Archives, the Southern Vermont Natural History Museum along with exhibits by many of Windham County’s Historical Societies.

A presentation and exhibit by Dave Allen of Old Maps of Vermont will offer copies available for purchase (10:00 AM). The West River Railroad Museum will feature the lost art of telegraph operating by Jim Murphy of Central Vermont Railway Historical Society (10:30 AM).  Bookbinding and Restoration presentations by Malcolm Summers of the Chester Bookworm invite you to bring your old books for a free professional evaluation (11:00 AM).  At 12:00 Michael Clough and live animal ambassadors of the Southern Vermont Natural History Museum will present a History of Vermont’s Landscape.  The Honorable Justice Carroll will give an insider’s tour of the Windham County Courthouse (1:00 PM).  Learn how to research your family’s roots at the Genealogy Presentation by Jerry Carbone (1:30 PM).  Tours of the County Jail (Larry Robinson at 2:00 PM), the historic Village of Newfane (Dan Brooks at 11:30 AM), as well as a tour of the old Newfane Cemetery on Cemetery Hill (Charles Marchant at 2:30 PM) are also scheduled.  Flintknapping, fire making, blacksmithing, carding, spinning, and quilting demonstrations will take place throughout the day. The day will also feature Antique Cars and Trucks including the Vermont State Police cruiser “Old Monty,” Farm Animals, as well as Crafters, Bargain table, and Raffles.  Food by NewBrook Auxiliary.
