In honor of our nation’s 250th, the Historical Society of Windham County is sponsoring a weekend of stories about our Windham County’s past and present Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7 pm and Sunday, Oct. 25, at 2 pm.
A different program for each date will include real-time stories told by residents of our towns: stories that shed a light on where we’ve come from to become who we are. Interspersed will be stories from our history created from documents by and about different personalities from years gone by.
Residents in all 23 towns are invited to:
– Tell a story of your own that has something to do with life in your town present day or past. It could be about your elders. A childhood memory of your town. A natural disaster. The school house. A tree story. The grange…whatever you can tell in 5 to 7 minutes.
– Tell someone else’s story.
– Assume the character of a figure from our past and tell their story using material we’ll provide.
“We aim to have each of our towns represented,” organizers say. “If we have too many, we’ll do another event in the spring. We will offer support and guidance to all participants.
There’ll be an optional information session and potluck September 14 and minimal run-throughs of both programs prior to the event.
